Many event planners are faced with the decision to postpone or go virtual for upcoming events. Here are our recommendations.
The current environment
During the COVID-19 pandemic, goalposts can move week to week, state to state, challenging your understanding of what is best for your organization and event attendees. Early in the pandemic, many events were postponed until Q4. But as lockdowns and social distancing measures persist, many Q4 events look less feasible. Borders between some countries and even between states have been closed, travel between many regions requires a14-day quarantine period and many places are in lockdown.
Huddle’s recommendations
Huddle’s answer to the big question – postpone or go virtual? We recommend you pivot to virtual or hybrid for your 2020 and early 2021 events where possible. It’s a safe way to retain and deliver much of the value of face-to-face meetings without battling the minefield of last-minute changes and cancellations. And now, more than ever, it’s a time to bring people together.
For events in 2021 and 2022 we are recommending clients plan a hybrid event in most cases. The hybrid model gives attendees the option of attending the event virtually if they are unable to attend in person. You and your attendees can maintain flexibility in a world where travel restrictions and quarantine requirements can change quickly.
